About me
Hello... and yup! That's me!
Amy Wong

Her Story
Formerly an educator with MOE and now a counsellor, Amy has worked with children & youths, parents & families for over 20 years. She appreciated the season in the education fraternity, which provided opportunities for personal and professional development where there were leadership roles before becoming a mentor-teacher.
Her Approach
Drawing from those experiences, Amy believes in the heart-ware learning of self and others. She has taught in the Singapore Boys Home and also worked with inmates for three years, where she postulates that many problems arise when one does not know enough about a close friend named Self. Each person is unique, has the potential to grow and lead a meaningful, self-directed life even with the limited given resources.
Amy adopts a person-centred approach and values every story in the counselling session. She also draws upon various modalities such as Narrative Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Choice Theory / Reality Therapy (CT / RT). The greatest and most persistent blockages to progress in life usually come from a single source – ourselves. Having to handle youths that exhibit difficult behaviours at the schools and the Boys Home, and facing resistance from the inmates in some of her classes, she often focuses on building a relationship and support them to think about how to make a choice to take a chance to see a change. She will also tap on expressive therapies and Psychodynamics to help her clients explore deeper.
Her Strengths
Amy is bilingual to conduct counselling sessions in both English and Mandarin. She has helped clients with stress at work or studies, anxiety, depression, relational issues, suicide ideation, and grief and loss. She sees clients for career counselling as well. While youths have told her about YOLO, her conviction is “we live every day” and making that choice to be alive for a purpose is her invitation to journey into the hearts together.
